Eric André Is Ready to Play a Rabbi

Someone please make Rabbi President Shlomo happen.

Eric André is quite the character. Over the course of his nearly 20 years in comedy, we’ve seen him pull some truly wild stunts — including shaving all the hair on his head and body for “The Eric André Show” and screaming “Let me in! LET ME IN!” outside the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

Time and again, he’s proven that he’s willing to do just about anything for a laugh. So it comes as no surprise that André is considering going a little Old Testament in the name of humor. That is to say: Eric André wants his next role to be a rabbi.

In a recent interview about his role on HBO’s “The Righteous Gemstones,” a show where he plays a southern celebrity preacher, the interviewer asked André, “Now that you’ve played a preacher, what role is next? A rabbi? President?”

To which he wittily replied, “A rabbi president. President Shlomo.”

So, OK, that answer might be the tiniest bit facetious. (Read: very facetious.) But we can dream, can’t we? One of the last times we saw Eric André channel his Jewishness was as the facilitator of Desus and Mero’s made-for-TV bar mitzvah, and lest you’ve forgotten how incredible that was, may we direct you to #16 on our list of the 50 best Jewish pop culture moments of 2021!

So regardless of intent behind his statement, Eric André has put Rabbi President Shlomo into the universe, and we hope one day he actually manifests it.
