Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of a project we’ve been working on for a very long time: Hey Alma’s Guide to Antisemitism.
We know that antisemitism is on many people’s minds, now more than ever. We also know that while sometimes it can be fairly simple to identify when something is or isn’t antisemitic, other times, it’s a bit more complicated. And in many instances, not even all Jews agree (because when have all Jews agreed on anything, ever?).
The hatred of, or prejudice against, Jews has sadly been around for centuries, and it has reared its ugly head in many different ways. We created this extensive guide as a resource for anyone looking to better understand the history of antisemitism, the common tropes and stereotypes that persist to this day, and how this hatred impacts Jews worldwide. We try to give as many answers as we can while also acknowledging where disagreements arise and where more nuance is needed. And we try to do it all in a way that’s accessible and easy to follow along — you don’t need to be a history buff to peruse through and get something out of this guide.
We hope you use this resource to educate yourself, and in turn to educate others. We hope it empowers you to speak more confidently about antisemitism, to point it out when you see it, and to help others see it, too. You can learn more about this project here.
Age-old hatred does best when we keep it in the dark, afraid of or unwilling to look and talk about it. This guide is our effort to turn on the light.
