It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost one year since October 7, 2023. This has been an incredibly difficult year for Jews, for Muslims and for everyone affected by the ongoing violence and bloodshed. As the first anniversary of this event approaches, you may be feeling any range of emotions: grief, anger, anxiety, despair, frustration, heart break. We empathize — we are feeling all those things, too.

When we thought about how to best honor this devastating anniversary, we realized that what we wanted most was to be in community with all of you. We hope you’ll join us on October 7 for a brief ceremony to commemorate a year of mourning with the Hey Alma community and Rabbi Emily Cohen. During this 20-minute gathering, we’ll ground through our experiences of the last year, name those we’ve lost and share our hopes and prayers for the time to come.

This free virtual gathering will be held on Monday, Oct. 7, 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT on Zoom.

Rabbi Emily Cohen is a rabble-rousing rabbi and artist. She’s usually found in Brooklyn with her partner, cat, and lots of coffee. You can keep up with her latest at www.rabbiemilycohen.com.
