Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal Tease ‘When Harry Met Sally’ Reunion — But What Will It Be?!

My money's on a Zantac Super Bowl commercial featuring Katz's Deli.

We’ll have what she’s having!!!

Just an hour ago, actress Meg Ryan teased some sort of “When Harry Met Sally” reunion on Instagram. “It’s finally happening, we’re reuniting for something iconic. Can’t wait to show you all soon 💙,” Meg captioned a photo of herself and Jewish co-star Billy Crystal. In the photo, Meg and Billy are seated on a couch, emulating the couples’ interview scenes in the Nora Ephron movie. And before you ask, yes, Billy is donning the iconic, cream-colored cable-knit sweater that his character Harry wears.

But what kind of reunion is Meg Ryan teasing? The inimitable Nora Ephron and Carrie Fisher have both since passed away and it’s hard to imagine any sort of “When Harry Met Sally” sequel or follow-up TV series without them. But there are still plenty of other ways Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal can reunite. For example, Meg and Billy could be starting a line of cable knit sweaters just like the one Harry wears in the movie. Or maybe they’re announcing a “When Harry Met Sally” exhibition a la The FRIENDS Experience: Tape a couples’ interview on the iconic couch, perform “Surrey With a Fringe on Top” on a karaoke machine in Sharper Image, have spontaneous sex with a young Billy Crystal… the possibilities are endless.

But here is what I think they’re actually doing: I think they’re doing a Super Bowl commercial. So without further ado, here is my pitch for the “When Harry Met Sally” Super Bowl Commercial:

A Super Bowl commercial for Zantac, directed by Rob Reiner

Shot opens on present-day Harry Burns and Sally Albright at Katz’s Deli; they’ve been happily married since Taylor Swift was in diapers. Sally goes up to the carving counter and orders a pastrami sandwich: extremely thin cut slices of pastrami on rye, lightly toasted, with mustard and pickles on the side and a can of Dr. Brown’s cream soda. That is if they have half-sours. If they don’t have half-sours, make the pickles full sour and substitute cream soda for cel-ray. Harry says that he’ll have what she’s having. As they sit down at the table, Sally reminds Harry to take his Zantac before he starts eating. He says he doesn’t need them. Cut to Harry moaning in bed later that night in a fit of heartburn. He curses the pastrami sandwich, yelling, “It had to be you! It had to be you!” Cue a Harry Connick Jr. track while Meg Ryan in voice over reads the numerous benefits and side effects of Zantac. Back in the bedroom, Sally walks in and pops a Zantac. Harry, enthusiastically, grabs the box and says, “I’ll have what you’re having!”

Update on Jan. 27, 2025: I’m going to claim this prediction as essentially correct.
