A Timeline of Alison Brie and Dave Franco’s Relationship

Alison Brie and Dave Franco are married, and low-key one of the most attractive celebrity couples out there. Alison and Dave met in 2011, started dating in 2012, got engaged in 2015, and married in 2017. Which is a totally normal pace to move at, mazel tov.

Alison’s mom is Jewish, and growing up, her mom “would always make sure we knew we were Jewish.” Same with Dave’s mom — a Jew, she made sure to raise her sons to be proud to be Jewish. (Yes, Dave’s older brother is James Franco. No, we’re not going to talk about him anymore.)

Their relationship is private, but from afar it seems very healthy. As Alison explained, “We spend time together at night. We just like to hang out. Having a really supportive partner in my life and knowing that he loves me no matter what. I’ve found my person.” Awww.

Ready to dive in to everything we can possibly know about Alison Brie and Dave Franco’s relationship? Let’s go.

March 2011: They meet at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Alison explained, “We met at a restaurant, through a mutual friend, in New Orleans at Mardi Gras.”

March 2012: They start dating. We know this for two reasons:

1) Because Franco said, “When we first started dating, my birthday came up in the first three months of the relationship. She started planning a surprise party, which was very sweet. But it got out of control… Alison and I still talk about how if we can survive my surprise party, we can survive anything.” Franco’s birthday is in June, so they probably started dating around late March/early April.

2) Alison said, “We were together five years before we got married and already had such a strong foundation between us. That’s the key, I think — being sweet and loving to each other every day.” They got married in 2017, so five years earlier? 2012.

May 2012: Gossip magazines start to report on their relationship, saying they’ve been together for “five or six months,” which makes us think they maybe started dating earlier than March?

November 2012: Alison tweets about Dave’s film 21 Jump Street:

February 2013: They are spotted in the West Village in New York City, walking together.

March 2013: Alison realizes he’s “the one.”

“Probably about a year into our relationship I was like, ‘Oh wow, this thing [marriage] I thought I maybe never would do, I could definitely see myself doing it with you. And it felt super-easy and natural, and I think that’s probably how it should feel.”

April 2013: They star in a video for Funny or Die together. Dave directed and wrote the sketch, and casted Alison. It’s weird and gross and kinda funny:

May 2013: They run errands together in California. US Weekly calls them “low-key lovebirds.”

July 2015: Dave Franco wants to “Save Alma” (okay, hi!). Jk, it’s about a restaurant in LA:

(Alison tweets the video.)

August 2015: They get engaged in Big Sur, California. Alison’s reaction to Dave’s proposal? ““I was so shocked that I actually burst out laughing, and I asked him a number of times if he was being serious before saying yes.”

September 2015: Dave attends the premiere of Alison’s film Sleeping With Other People. They look very pretty on the red carpet:

Okay, they join each other on a lot of red carpets so it’s not really important for their #relationship #timeline.

March 2017: Dave and Alison get married at a secret wedding. Of the wedding, Dave says, “It was intimate, and it was really fun.” There are no photos on the internet. If you find them, please send our way.

Alison also joins Instagram this month. Lots of cute photos of the two of them to come, with their cats:

June 2017: Their film, The Little Hours, is released.

Alison on filming with Dave? “It was nice to have my person with me!”

She further explained, “More than anything it’s just nice to be together. You spend so much time apart when you’re shooting on location and in different cities, so to be able to go together to Italy for a month in the springtime was great. The same thing just even about working with friends and people that I know and love — it’s just so much more fun, you get to skip that period of time where you’re trying to get to know everyone and being polite. You just get to be intimate with each other and have a great time.”

November 2017: They attend a red carpet together, for The Disaster Artist, and do press in Sundance together.

December 2017The Disaster Artist is released, starring Dave and his brother James. (Alison plays the girlfriend of Dave’s character.)

In an interview, Dave said the most challenging scene to shoot was the one “where he’s naked except for the co-k sock… That was the first day my wife, Alison, came to set, so she walked in on that and was like, ‘Wow, this movie is gonna be different.’”

June 2018: Alison opens up about not wanting to have kids (but they kinda already have two kids: their cats).

“I don’t really want to have kids. It’s great because I don’t worry about when I should get pregnant — between seasons, while we’re shooting the show — I don’t think about it every day… It would be nice, but I think of all the things that would be so stressful. I think about how much we’re involved in our cats’ lives. Oh my God, if it was a child!”

Here’s to Alison, Dave, and their cats.
