Last night, the Television Academy hosted the 2024 Emmy Awards, handing out prizes for excellence across the television. If you’re thinking, Wait… didn’t that happen already this year?, you’re technically not wrong. Back in January, the ceremony for the 2023 Emmy Awards took place. The event was initially scheduled to happen in September 2023, but the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes ensured that it was postponed until early 2024.
So two Emmy Awards in one year for us. Hooray! The ceremony on Sunday night was focused on shows or made-for-TV-movies that aired between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024. This meant that some notable Jewish nominees included Hannah Einbinder for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy for season three of “Hacks,” Larry David for outstanding lead actor in a comedy for the final season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and Paul Rudd for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy for his role in season three of “Only Murders in the Building.”
The evening was hosted by delightful Jewish father-son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy and had a fun mix of surprise upsets and expected wins. For example, “The Bear” took home 11 Emmys, but shockingly did not win the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series — that went to “Hacks.” Breakout show of the season “Baby Reindeer” won four Emmys, as creator and star Richard Gadd reminded the world in an acceptance speech that TV should take risks. And “The Daily Show,” which has Jewish comedian Jon Stewart back at its helm, won yet another Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series. Previously, “The Daily Show” won 10 consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Variety Series between 2003 and 2012.
The 2024 Creative Arts Emmys Awards took place the weekend before and also boasted a number of Jewish nominees and winners. So, without further ado, here are the Jewish winners at the 2024 Primetime Emmys and the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys:
