This past spring and summer have been notable seasons for potential celebrity couples. In March, an anonymous source at the Daily Mail started rumors that Brett Goldstein and J.Lo were and item. Then in June, Billie Eilish and Nat Wolff were spotted kissing on a balcony in Venice. And just last week, a clip of Zoë Kravitz and Harry Styles arm-in-arm and reports that they kissed in public started making the rounds online.
But do you sense that? That slight change in the air? No, it’s not summer turning to fall. That, my dear pals, is the feeling of an incoming ick. Because apparently there might be another new celebrity couple on the horizon, and we’re not sure how to feel about it. That is to say, Sydney Sweeney and Scooter Braun are apparently dating.
We’ll give you a second to process.
…
Anyway, the news first broke last week, when outlet Star reported that the 27-year-old “Euphoria” star and the 44-year-old Jewish businessman are dating after hitting it off at Jeff Bezos’ and Lauren Sanchez’s Venice wedding in June. Star also shared a TikTok of the pair walking together, which is… something, technically? Then yesterday, People shared anonymous sources claiming that Sweeney and Braun are “casually hooking up.”
“Everything is casual. She is living her life and working hard,” another source said. Meanwhile a source from Page Six apparently said that Braun is “obsessed” with Sweeney. Neither Braun nor Sweeney have confirmed or denied the rumors.
OK, yeah, sure, why not.
In case you missed it, the last time Sydney Sweeney captured headlines was in late July, due to her controversial American Eagle ad. The campaign tagline “Sydney Sweeney has good jeans,” in conjunction with a social media reel which featured Sweeney talking about genetics, Sweeney’s blonde-haired, blue-eyed look and her potentially conservative personal politics, had numerous people online comparing the ad to Nazi propaganda and eugenics. Neither American Eagle nor Sydney Sweeney publicly commented on the incident. (You can read more about that entire debacle here.)
For Scooter Braun’s part, he is best known as a former talent manager for the likes of Justin Bieber and Kanye West, and the guy who got into a dispute with Taylor Swift over the ownership of her record masters.
Do you see why we feel the ick?
Braun is also a fairly publicly Jewish figure, making his decision to pursue Sweeney, given the whole Nazi-like ad campaign thing, slightly surprising. He has shared about his Jewish heritage online throughout his career and more recently advocated for Israeli hostages. Braun was previously married to Yael Cohen, a Jewish influencer and founder of Fuck Cancer. They have three children together: Jagger, Levi and Hart.
So, yeah. At the very least, if they are a couple, maybe Scooter can help check Sydney’s future ad campaigns for Nazi dogwhistles? Maybe? Please?
