It’s an established fact that former Bachelorette Gabby Windey is the best part of season three of “The Traitors.”
First, she’s hilarious. Gabby has spent her time gushing in a talking head about her love of smoked salmon, pickles and talking shit, telling her fellow “Traitors” contestants “I’m a lesbian now” after one asked about her experience on the “Bachelor” franchise, and being fully oblivious to the presence of another Faithful at the breakfast table with her. But she’s also just a smart and reliable Faithful. Where other players (ahem, Dylan Efron) rely on weird energy and other circumstantial evidence to try and weed out Traitors, Gabby listens and votes in the game based on solid facts.
As it turns out, she may have gotten help from a Jewish prayer. Namely, the Shema.
In a recent conversation with Interview Magazine, Gabby revealed that her partner, Jewish comedian Robby Hoffman, gave her a Shema prayer card before she left Los Angeles to film “The Traitors” in Scotland. “She was the only thing really that got me through. She sent me off with this Jewish prayer card, and it starts out with calling in the Lord. And I said it every night just to feel connected to her and to obviously pray for success,” Gabby explained to Interview.
That is the sweetest thing we’ve ever heard.
Robby clarified, “The prayer is very basic. It’s called the Shema, and Shema means ‘To hear.’ It’s one very short sentence and it’s just ‘Hear me.’ And then you say basically what you want.”
When the interviewer asked if Gabby was Jewish, the reality star clarified that she isn’t, but reaffirmed her wish to eventually convert. Gabby first publicly stated her intention to convert to Judaism in an episode of Bethenny Frankel’s podcast in 2023. “She’s desperate to convert,” Robby joked at the time. “She’s so into it.”
The Shema prayer card-reveal isn’t the only Jewish moment in that interview. The piece was centered around Valentine’s Day, and Robby and Gabby told Interview Magazine that while this year they’re celebrating at Italian restaurant Carbone, last year they went to Katz’s deli. (At the time, The Nosher reported that Gabby ordered matzah ball soup, pastrami on rye topped with mustard and Swiss cheese, Dr. Brown’s Black Cherry Soda and a plate of pickles and pickled tomatoes.)
“She’s very new to Jewish deli. Loves Matzah ball soup,” Robby said.
The interview also delved into the part of Robby and Gabby’s relationship before Gabby came out publicly. The pair started dating in May 2023 but didn’t officially announce their relationship and Gabby’s newfound queerness until August 2023. During that time, Gabby and Robby still went out, but they had to be careful to not get noticed for their own privacy and to protect against blowback from the “Bachelor” community. “I didn’t want it to be my fault. People are going to find out she’s gay, and it’s my fault. I knew they would come for the Jew and I didn’t want it to be a problem for her,” Robby said.
OK, we’re convinced: Not only is Gabby our favorite part of “The Traitors,” but Robby and Gabby are our favorite interfaith Jewish couple. And we have our fingers crossed that the Shema pulls through for Gabby and the Faithful on “The Traitors.”
