There’s been a few things bringing me joy lately. Some new television — Never Have I Ever and The Great — have made me smile, and the season finale of Schitt’s Creek brought me great comfort. Of course there’s the Mamma Mia films (I am going to keep writing about these until my editor, Molly, finally watches them) [Editor’s note: Okay okay I can take a hint]. There’s Jewish rapper Doja Cat hitting #1. And then there’s Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe’s live Instagram show, “A Touch More,” which is, simply, amazing.
For those of you who don’t know, Sue Bird, the Israeli-American basketball player, and Megan Rapinoe, the American soccer player who grabbed everyone’s attention during the 2019 World Cup, are dating. And they are literal goals. (Do you get it? That’s a sports pun!!) Their power couple status is untouchable. Here’s a brief background on their dating history, which you can also watch in video form:
Megan Rapinoe is known for her iconic hair — which has to be maintained, but, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is not being maintained. So, in the style of so many other partners and loved ones (see: Taika Waititi’s daughters cheerfully hacking off their dad’s hair), Sue decided to cut Megan’s hair, live on Instagram, with the help of Riawna Capri, Megan’s hairstylist who is famous in her own right.
I know we have all experienced Instagram Live fatigue during this pandemic, but I promise you, this one’s worth the watch. Let me break it down.
“Are you stressed a little bit?” Megan asks.
“Me?” Sue asks. “I’m actually not.”
They add Riawna into the live, and she starts instructing them. Riawna is high-key so good at virtual instructions, modeling with kitchen utensils on Morgan, her fiancée.
“Listen, how long has her hair been short? She should know what the fuck she’s doing,” Riawna says as Megan takes the clippers herself about halfway through the the haircut.
Riawna is dead focused, telling Sue how to cut and how to position her arms. It’s ridiculously impressive. As Megan gets excited over starting to feel like herself again — back to her short hair — Riawna exclaims, “I think that’s one of my favorite parts of being a hairstylist: Making people feel good.”
Then Riawna and Morgan bring their dog, Jazz, into the video. Sue and Megan pause the haircut to kvell over the doggie (obviously).
“It looks great! Sue! You crushed it!” Riawna and Morgan congratulate her at the end. Then they do the rapid-fire questions about her life. “Sue is nothing if not prepared,” Megan says. (We!! Love!! Sue!!)

This wasn’t a one-time thing, however; Sue and Megan get drunk, live, and talk to teammates and various friends every Saturday on their Instagram live at 6 p.m. PT and 9 p.m. ET. It’s called “A Touch More” and you should 1000% tune in. Feel joy again, people. You won’t regret it.
