Jack Schlossberg is truly the people’s princess. Though his immediate claim to fame is as a member of the Kennedy family, over the last year Jack has cultivated his own following through his quirky and charming online presence. He’s become known for a rolodex of characters and silly goose behavior like rip-sticking while reciting “She Walks in Beauty” by Lord Byron. But did you know that he’s not just Catholic, like the rest of his Kennedy family members? He’s also Jewish!
Here are 18 things to know about him.
1. Jack was born on Jan. 19, 1993 in New York City to Edwin Schlossberg and Caroline Kennedy. His father is Ashkenazi Jewish and his mother is Irish Catholic. Here he is as a cute little kid:
2. He’s a Capricorn!
3. His full name is John Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg.
4. His grandparents Alfred Schlossberg and Mae Schlossberg (née Hirsch) were the children of immigrants from around Poltava, Ukraine (formerly the Russian Empire) who entered the U.S. through Ellis Island. They were Orthodox Jews. The Schlossberg family attended Park East Synagogue on the Upper East Side where Alfred was President of the synagogue for a time. It was there that Edwin attended Hebrew school and had his bar mitzvah.
5. Jack was raised Catholic, but grew up with some Jewish traditions. “We incorporate Hanukkah… We light the menorah and play dreidel and sing songs at our holiday party,” Caroline Kennedy told Newsday in 2007.
6. Earlier this year, Hey Alma investigated whether or not Jack identifies as Jewish. Here’s an excerpt from the piece:
“It turns out Jack Schlossberg is ‘a huge fan’ of Hey Alma so I reached out via Instagram DM to ask if he identifies as culturally Jewish,” I wrote in July 2024. “‘Yes!’ he responded, before clarifying that he always has to explain that he’s not ‘technically’ Jewish because his mother isn’t. (Jack is referencing halacha, or Jewish law, which states that a child’s Jewish status is determined by the mother’s religion.)”
The piece goes on, “As for Jack, he concluded our correspondence with, ‘I feel I’m at least 100% half Jewish 😉‘”
7. He attended Collegiate School in New York and graduated from Yale University in 2015 with a degree in history. He then graduated from Harvard‘s joint Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration program in 2022.
8. Jack and his older sisters Rose and Tatianna are the only grandchildren of President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
“My grandfather, President Kennedy, is my hero. The first thing I ever got really nerdy about was him, his speeches and his administration,” Jack told Vogue in 2024. “It’s a blueprint for how progressivism can work in America and how America can lead the world in a positive, optimistic, science-driven way.”
9. He worked as a Senate page for Senator John Kerry in 2009 and 2010, and then as a Senate intern in 2011.
10. He has a funny series on Instagram called “Hey, Dad?“ in which he playfully annoys his father with deep questions.
