Fran Drescher and Rachel Bloom Are Bringing ‘The Nanny’ to Broadway

OMFG.

Our dreams are coming true, folks.

Fran Drescher – star and creator of The Nanny – is developing her beloved TV show into a Broadway musical. And she’s teaming up with none other than Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s Rachel Bloom (!!!!) and Adam Schlesinger.

It is almost too good to be true! But it’s true!!

The New York Times reports that Drescher will write the book of the musical with Peter Marc Jacobson. (Jacobson created The Nanny with Drescher when they were married, they have since separated.) Bloom and Schlesinger will collaborate on the music and lyrics. Marc Bruni, who most recently directed the Carole King musical, Beautiful, is set to direct.

The Nanny aired from 1993 to 1999, following Fran Fine, a Jewish woman from Queens who is hired by British Broadway producer Maxwell Sheffield as a nanny. Last year, there were rumors that Cardi B wanted to reboot the show — and Fran Drescher wanted Cardi B to play her daughter. Now, however, all eyes are focused on this Broadway debut.

The Nanny on Broadway joins a series of ’90s staples that have been adapted for the stage, including Pretty Woman, Jagged Little Pill, and Beetlejuice

Will the iconic theme song make it into the show?!

Like us, Twitter promptly freaked out:

And, most important: Can a streaming service please pick up The Nanny?!?!

Since casting has not yet been announced, may we suggest one Jewish superstar? Beanie Feldstein!!
