Despite her combined screen time of less than 20 minutes in the first two seasons (I’m guestimating here), actress Tal Anderson is a certified scene-stealer in “The Pitt.“
Tal’s Becca, the 20-something sister of Dr. Mel King, is naturally lovable in her self-assuredness and inadvertent hilarity. Her character, who has autism, also poses important points in the show about bodily autonomy for the disabled community and caretaker burnout. (Tal, like Becca, is also on the autism spectrum.) Whether Becca is asking Mel to watch “Elf” for the millionth time or getting admitted to the ER for a UTI she got from her secret boyfriend Adam, you just cannot help but root for her.
Or, at least, Television Academy voters feel this way, as Tal was nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for the 78th Emmy Awards.
But wait… Tal is a gender-neutral Hebrew name meaning “dew.” Is Tal Anderson Jewish? It’s time to look a little closer at this brilliant actress!

If you’ve been following along with our previous investigations of this nature, you know that we’re looking to check at least one of two boxes. Does Tal Anderson identify as culturally or religiously Jewish? And/or, does Tal Anderson have Jewish ancestry? If the answer to either of those questions is a resounding yes, she’s a member of the tribe!
We’ll begin with the question of whether or not Tal Anderson has Jewish ancestry. Tal has spoken publicly about her experience being a person of mixed Asian descent, as well as an adoptee. In a 2024 interview she conducted for Mixed Asian Media, Tal explained, “My adoptive mom is half-Japanese, Irish and Cherokee, and my dad is of Western European heritage, so I’ve been raised in a multicultural environment. I was aware of my birth heritage in general, but recently found out that I was 50% Korean.” In her author bio for the site, Tal has also identified herself as half mixed Irish-Italian heritage.
So, does Tal Anderson have Jewish heritage? The answer seems to be no.
On the matter of how Tal identifies religiously and culturally, the answer is more opaque. In a USA Today interview, Tal stated that like her character, she too enjoys watching “Elf.” “I watch it during the Christmas time,” she explained. Beyond that, she has not really spoken publicly about her religion (if she has one) or if she has any cultural identity in addition to identifying as mixed Asian.
Verdict: No, despite having a Hebrew name, it does not seem like Tal Anderson is Jewish.
