In season one, episode nine of “Hacks,” young comedy writer Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) is thrilled to be back in Los Angeles after being sent to Las Vegas to help rehabilitate the career of comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart). “Everyone in LA has such good style,” she says, making chipper conversation with a barista. “I can’t tell who’s Haim and who’s just three people.”
It’s a perfect Haim joke, and the fact that it’s delivered by Hannah Einbinder is the cherry on top. A hilarious line about some of the proudest and coolest Jewish musicians out there said by one of the proudest and coolest Jewish comedians out there? Dayenu!
OK, well, maybe not totally dayenu.
As “Hacks” enters what could be its penultimate season — in 2024, the show’s co-creators Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky told Deadline that they always envisioned a five season arc — I have a humble request: Somebody please let Haim be on “Hacks.”
It’s been a long four years since the show’s first season and that beautiful Haim joke. In that time, “Hacks” has aired two more seasons and just begun airing a third, and yet there has been no more crossover between Haim and the Emmy-winning comedy. What gives?! Not only would Este, Danielle and Alana make for a perfect cameo, but also the Venn Diagram between people who love the sister band trio and who love Hannah Einbinder is quite simply a gay Jewish circle.
Thankfully, last week Hannah herself inadvertently made a case for Haim to be on “Hacks.” In a recent video promoting the new season of the show, Jean Smart asks Hannah what her favorite song is and she immediately replies that it’s currently the new Haim single. “Can you hum it?” Jean asks, prompting Hannah to sing the chorus of “Relationships” — beautifully, I might add.

The clip quickly went viral and Haim themselves weighed on in their Instagram story. “can we be in season 5” the group posted over the reel. Yes, please! Just think of the possibilities! Maybe Haim is a guest on Deborah’s late night show and Ava mistakes them for just three extremely well-dressed Angelenos. Or perhaps Kayla ends up converting to Judaism and has a real bat mitzvah with Haim playing at the party and Ava joins them onstage to sing “Relationships.” Or possibly Ava goes on a date with a character played by Alana, only to realize that she has two equally hot sisters and hijinks ensues.
To be honest, I really need to see these Jewish stars queen out together so I will accept literally any form of Haim on “Hacks.” To quote Robby Hoffman’s Randi: “I’m easy.”
